Confera Construction Services has been recognized by Hospitality Business Review Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Top Hotel Renovation Contracting Firm 2026,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry, and is also named among “Top Hospitality Construction Companies,” reflecting its broader leadership. This profile has been developed by the Hospitality Business Review research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Brian Regal, Owner.
Brian Regal, OwnerA hotel renovation can be carefully planned, but unexpected problems can quickly change the scope of work. Confera Construction Services experienced that firsthand just before it was scheduled to begin work on one property, when a cold snap cracked the dry-pipe sprinkler system in the attic, flooding part of the building and forcing roughly half of it to close. The planned renovation now had to accommodate an insurance-related restoration.
As a general contractor specializing in hotel renovations, the company was already familiar with the complexities of working around an operating property. It did not leave the additional work for the owner to manage separately. Instead, the company incorporated restoration into renovation, coordinating both efforts while staying on schedule and within budget. The approach also helped return the affected portion of the hotel to operation quickly.
“We understand our role, but we are willing to step beyond it when necessary to help solve problems for our clients,” says Brian Regal, owner.
This principle extends to routine project issues. During a punch walk, if an owner raises something outside the original scope, Confera either addresses it or helps find the right party to resolve it, rather than leaving the client with another issue to manage.
The philosophy traces back more than 15 years, when Regal worked as an owner’s representative overseeing hotel renovations. The experience exposed him to shortcomings in renovation projects and shaped how Confera would eventually operate. The company aims to benefit clients rather than protect its own interests, understanding that fulfilling a defined role is not always enough to solve what a project requires.
That perspective also shapes its hospitality mindset. Hotels accommodate guests since their experience affects the property’s reputation and performance. The company applies the same thinking to hotel owners and staff, treating them with the same attentiveness it expects hotels to show their guests. Confera avoids defaulting to “we can’t do that” or “that’s not in our contract” when a problem needs to be addressed.
The approach is supported by its six years as a multi-trade subcontractor before becoming a general contractor in 2020. Performing carpet, tile, painting, wall preparation, vinyl, doors and hardware, and carpentry gave the team firsthand knowledge of finished-trade execution and built relationships with trade partners that have lasted a decade or more. The company can also self-perform finished trades, supporting dependable execution.
The same emphasis on relationships carries into talent development. One of Confera’s top superintendents began working summers with his father, a carpentry foreman, at 15 and eventually grew into his current role. Team members are encouraged to take ownership of greater responsibilities while maintaining high standards and prompt, professional communication.
That consistency matters in occupied hotels, where more than 20 rooms can be out of inventory while operations continue. The company works to make renovations as painless as possible for hotel staff, providing weekly updates and week-ahead snapshots so owners can understand what is happening onsite. When operations teams confirm that work is progressing as represented, Confera sees that alignment as an important measure of execution.
Competitive pricing also helps win work. It works to secure strong vendor and subcontractor pricing, avoid unnecessary staffing and keep projects efficiently structured. The company’s longstanding relationships with trade partners also help it maintain competitive project costs. In a recent bid cycle, it was the low bidder on 10 of 11 projects and a close second on the remaining bid, ultimately securing more than half of the work it pursued.
Confera plans to expand its field supervision and crews by developing employees internally rather than relying on senior hires from other general contractors. Regal says outside hires can bring practices from previous organizations, while internal development allows employees to learn its approach as they take on greater responsibility. The company’s goal is to increase field capacity without losing its standards or willingness to take ownership. This approach has earned Confera recognition as a Top Hotel Renovation Contracting Firm 2026.
